FILM INDEPENDENT MEMBERSHIP

Today I decided to buy myself an early Christmas present and become an official member of Film Independent (the folks behind the Film Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, amongst other things).

There are multiple reasons why I wanted to join, chief among them the chance to attend members-only screenings, receive DVD screeners of Spirit Award nominated films, and have the ability to actually vote for the winners of the 30th Annual Film Independent Spirit Awards! You too can get these perks if you JOIN HERE by December 5th.

Here is a full list of the benefits of joining, as found on FilmIndependent.com

In case you need a reminder, here's the complete list of nominees for the 30th Annual Film Independent Spirit Awards:

The first Tuesday of every month is "Member Night" at the Film Independent Offices in L.A., so if you are in the area and are going to attend... I'll see you there!

"STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS" TRAILER, REVIEW & SCREENGRABS

"There has been an awakening.
Have you felt it?
The dark side... and the light."

The trailer for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens is finally here and it's AMAZING!!! It's got (almost) everything fans have been hoping for:

Tatooine? CHECK!

Droids? CHECK!

Stormtroopers? CHECK!

X-Wings? CHECK!

Lightsabers? CHECK!

The Millennium Falcon flying around majestically whilst simultaneously fighting a pair of TIE Fighters? CHECK!

We also got our first look at some of the new principal actors, while the original cast including Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were noticeably absent. This is a good thing, a great thing actually. Trailers far too often give away WAY MORE DETAILS than they should, thus ruining the surprise and fun of experiencing the events as they unfold in the movie. This trailer strikes the perfect balance between "THAT'S SO COOL!" and "I WANT MORE!", which is exactly what a good teaser trailer should do.

Here's a few screengrabs (who knew sand could be so exciting?)...

December 2015 can't come soon enough!

May the force be with all of us this morning!

Then I'm taking a nap.

"STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS" TEASER TRAILER TO HIT ITUNES TRAILERS ON BLACK FRIDAY

First there was this tweet on Monday from J.J. Abrams production company Bad Robot hinting that the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer was going to hit select theaters this Friday.

Now within the last hour a new bombshell was dropped in the battle between Star Wars and Jurassic World in this weeks battle for trailer supremacy, as it was announced that The Force Awakens trailer would also be released on iTunes Trailers this Friday as well as in select theaters.

No specific details were mentioned, and there are rumors that the iTunes trailer may be a shortened 60 second version (the one in theaters is going to be 88 seconds long). When more details are revealed, I'll let you know.

TAG! Jurassic World, you're it.

2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards Nominees Announcement Video

Found on the Film Independent YouTube channel.

BEST OF THE WEB: Guardians of the Galaxy & Land Before Time Mashup

File this under "HOW HAVE I NOT SEEN THIS UNTIL RIGHT NOW?!"

One of my favorite childhood films (The Land Before Time) was mashed up with one of my favorite films of 2014 (Guardians of the Galaxy) back in August to create what might be the single greatest movie trailer of all time (be it real or fake). As of right now the clip posted by Daily ReHash on YouTube has fewer than 10,000 views. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? That number is about to go up, dramatically. I will probably revisit this every day for the rest of eternity.

Check it out...

JURASSIC WORLD FULL OFFICIAL TRAILER RELEASED

THE PARK IS OPEN (ahead of schedule)!

Universal Pictures just surprised everyone and released the Jurassic World trailer two days early. It was only a few days ago that Universal released a trailer for the trailer (apparently that's a thing now) promising football fans the first peak during the Thanksgiving Day football marathon. For whatever reason, it's here now.

Take a look...

I must say it looks pretty sweet, and it looks like there are more than a few nods to the original trilogy (RUUUNNNNN!!!). I think it is safe to say that Chris Pratt's winning streak as of late (The LEGO Movie and Guardians of the Galaxy) will continue on into next year. Hopefully they won't reveal too much more and spoil the rest of the movie for us, as far too many trailers have done in recent years. I'm excited to see the finished product next Summer.
